I recently purchased a T610 from eBay. The phone is not available in Canada. When I received the phone, I discovered that the phone was sent from Hong Kong and it was made for Vodafone. The person I purchased it from assured me that it was unlocked and I could use any SIM card.
I did verify that the phone is unlocked >*<<*<* and saw the unlocked symbol besides all four items.
Here are the questions.
Next to the locks were a number 5 on each one. I was told that this digit could be anywhere from 5 to 15. If I saw a zero, that means the phone is hard locked and I am out of luck. Fortunately for me, that is not the case.
I have read through this forum and I have a pretty good idea on what I have to do to get rid of the customizations from Vodafone. What I don't understand is what the credits are?
I need to get a T28 cable, download the Flashing 410 software. Then get the new firmware R1L013. Where do the credits come in? Do I have to pay someone to update the firmware everytime it is done?
Another thing. I also read in the walk thru that I have to flash with the old firmware R1A to remove the Vodafone menus. I checked the firmware and I have R1A Hong Kong. This is due to the fact that the T28 cable does not flash the ARM (I assume this is a secondary EPROM for language). Does this mean that if I flash with the new firmware R1L, my phone will cease to function?
All I basically want to do is get rid of Vodafone menus, update the firmware to R1L with the Queen's English (no US English, we spell properly in Canada) and maybe French.
Where can I purchase a T28 cable? Do the 5 represent credits on my phone?
Thanks for your help
Welcome to the Form for a start.
I think if you talked to Paul_K ... and admin in this form he would be able to help you in both the Flashing, and where from to get the Cable.
About the numbers next to the locks these number represent the Number of times you have in entering the Lock Code's
and in your case you have 5 times for each lock.
i have the same phone and i used the SoneyEricsson Server to read the Lock code and then you can enter the code manually through the phone
and u need just 1 credit to do that.
again you can ask Paul_K about the credits and where to get them from because i think i'm not allowed to advertise for other websites. but you can contact me through the E-Mail
vip_3asal@hotmail.com
and i will be able to give you the websites where to but cables and credits :)
Saad Al-Kuwari :)
Okay, that makes sense.
Is there a way to increase the number of times I can enter the lock codes?
From your message, I gather that the flashing software is just a relay. The software does two things, sends the new firmware to the phone and transmits the encoded information to SE and that is where the log credit comes in. Correct?
SE is charging to decrypt the codes from the individual phones so that we may enter a programming mode.
Thanks for the quick reply.
You can't Increase the number of times you have to enter the lock code
but you can reset the number when it gets to zero
through the light version of the flashing program.
by connecting your phone and presseing the Reset
GDFS
and usually people use this in testing that if they have the right cable or not :)
about the second part of your message .. can you please clarify
THANKS
I was just trying to figure out what the log credits were used for?
It seems that the Flashing software will not work unless it is connected to the internet and transmits codes from your phone to SE.
SE will in turn send you codes from their site allowing you to enter you own phone.
For this luxury, they want to charge you one credit or log (wonder how that name originated)
Now I have two new question.
Everytime I dial a number it inserts a 1 in front of the number. Is there some way to turn this off?
Since my phone has the Vodafone menus. Is there anyway to verify that it is not data locked? I know it is not voice locked (I was able to insert my provider's SIM card) but I cannot access the GPRS for two reasons.
1. I don't know the proper settings for my provider
2. I am not sure if it is data locked.
Thanks again

The number you see there is only to tell you how many code entry attempts are left, everytime you type in a code that is wrong the counter decreases by one, once on zero the phone has to be reset. This was done by Ericsson to put people off trying to gues the codes. These numbers only apply to the SIM locks of the phone.

Basically the software available for flashing connects to a EMMA 2 kit (original Ericsson service equipment) so that a correct bot authority for the phone can be calculated and sent to the phone so that it is in a mode ready to accept a new flash. These EMMA 2 kits have a service card with a counter that needs "topping up" when it runs out. As this is a expensive process the software has been designed to use a credit each time. Credits are sold for a set amount and each time the software is used it takes one credit off yor account, if you only have a single credit then it's gone the first time you flash.
Another thing. I also read in the walk thru that I have to flash with the old firmware R1A to remove the Vodafone menus. I checked the firmware and I have R1A Hong Kong. You have to flash the same firmware version as already on your phone or the phone will cease to work 8O This means you can use any language pack as long as it's the same version as your original (r1a051, r1a081 etc) The reason it kills the phone is due to the fact that to upgrade firmware versions you need to flash the ARM chip which isn't possible at the moment without modifying your cable. The ARM chip controls the data side of the phone (Bluetooth, modem etc) A mis-match in versions between the two messes it up!

:-D

T28 cables are pretty common, just make sure you get a cable suitable for unlocking a T28 and you should be fine. As I said earlier the 5 is just the SIM lock attempt counter.

Just to clear things up...
The server takes information from your phone, feeds it through EMMA 2 and sends you back the unlock codes for your phone. As your phone is already unlocked you don't need to worry about codes.
The server or software isn't anything to do with SE . It's a privately coded and run thing.
Originaly if you wanted to unlock a phone the software would create a text (.log) file which would have to be sent off for processing. The name has kinda stuck ever since!
Go to Network and Dial-up connections and righ click on your ISP connection. Select properties and then amend the number or dialing rules as neccesary.
What provider are you on?
Cheers, Paul K
