View Full Version : T610 Flashing AVR with different region

09-08-2003, 11:09 AM
Hi (from a newbie)

I have read and underatand that the AVR file needs to be the same version as the AMR. In my case I have R1L013 prgCXC12-5598.EU.7 so can I flash the R1L013 EU2 or EU3 AVR into this handset or must it be the EU7 AVR file? In other words, is the "same version" just reistricted to the R1L013 indicator or does it extend to include the region (i.e. EU7) indicator also.

My handset currently has R1L013 prgCXC12-5596.TAE.EU6.EU7 also (which I presume to be the AVR file but it could be the AMR file).

Unfortunately all of the AMR files that I see on the site for EU6 or EU7 seem to be Voda branded so I want to identify an AVR file that can be used with this AMR file to remove the branding.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers Mike

Hi Mike,

only the R1L013 (or R1A081) have to match. The EUx refers to the languages that are supported.

Hi Trinity

Thanks for the VERY quick response. (This really is an amazing resource site). So that I understand, I can obtain any AVR file just so long as it is an R1L013 version file and flash that into the T610. So my selection will based on the language that I want and one that is not branded. That makes things so much more simple. Thanks for the clarification.

Cheers Mike

No problem.
Glad I could help

@ mruane

i guess you want get rid of the vodafone stuff!?

Just use the EU_2 file either the r1a or r1l whatever matches with your phones version!

09-10-2003, 10:09 AM
Hi Gorbulas

Thanks for that. The EU2 AVR file right? I have that on disk ready so I will try that first (in addition to the GDFS).

Yes, you are correct. I cannot understand what was going on in the mind of the V/Fone "genius" who designed the UI for the T610 and in the process completely destroyed the existing SE UI which I thought was pretty good. If that were not enough he/she left three ways of accessing the Live site and no way of accessing the shortcuts! You surely have to wonder don't you.

What irritated me more was that the handset was not even purchased from a V/Fone outlet! It was originally SIM Free and totally unbranded and unlocked. But V/Fone have apparently have an arrangment here, whereby the service centres are committed to replacing the software with branded software when a T610 is upgraded.

I got so frustrated about this that I started to think about a legal remedy. It is probably an intrusion into my civil liberties. But I think it is cheaper to just work around the bunnies.

OK rant over - feel better getting that off my chest.

So it looks like all future software upgrades will have to be followed by a patch to the AVR.

Cheers Mike

I got a question as well... suppose i got T610 R1A081 AP1 , and I want to change the region as well. Do I need to upgrade to R1L013 AP1 first... then change the region... or I can just direct flash it to R1L013 XXX??

Thanks...

09-10-2003, 12:33 PM
You can flash directly to R1L013 BUT you would have to flash ARM as well, since it is an update and both chips (AVR and ARM) have to be the same version.

The problem is, with the normal T28 data cable you cannot flash ARM  (yet)

8) thanks for the fast respond..... I'm going to get the terminator dongle from HK, that one is 100% compactable with the T610,and really cheap, only cost me 10 USD+ delivery...I'm newbie, so want to try something new on my phone...

09-10-2003, 10:15 PM
flin, could u share with the rest of us where u can get that dongle for 10 USD??

With the dongle do you still need to purchase credits?

09-12-2003, 08:10 AM
no

09-12-2003, 04:29 PM
What software are you suppose to use with the Dongle?

09-12-2003, 04:33 PM
you can use the div software. at least thats what i hope. i will get my dongle next week, hopefully

09-13-2003, 12:27 AM
with the terminator dongle you need to have the CRACKED DIV8.X , that's all you need it...

If the version in the phone is R1L013 already and I only want to get rid of Vodafone Branding, is it enough to flash AVR and GDFS?
Will this flsh render the phone slow or in any other way weird?

I have a Swedish Vodafone Branded T610 R1L013 (quite newly purchased).

09-14-2003, 05:42 PM
If you have R1L013 already on your phone then it is enough to flash AVR and GDFS.
The phone will work perfectly fine after that =)

flin898....can you give me more info on which dongle to order please. I have checked the web link you gave but cannot see anything that matches terminator or div.

TIA,

Have you checked what delivery is??
I just checked for me with DHL. That cost was over €110,-. Thats about 80,- GBP

For a private person I think that reduces the attractivity of that dongle to a minimum ...

flin,

Pls advise Terminator dongle or SonyEri Total Tools I shuld order @ http://www.one-stop-factory.com

So, Trinity, if I understand you correctly it works the following. I have a T610 with the NEW software version (R1L013) with Vodafone Branding. To remove the Branding I do NOT have to flash the ARM because I already have the new version on that chip, I only need to flash the AVR and GDFS chips.

To flash them, I need a cable (got it) and I can then choose to either pay you or the sonyericssonserver guys 30 Euros for AVR & GDFS flash files (15 Euro each), or I can spend 10 US Dolllars (ca. 8 Euro) for a Dongle that does the same job, OR I can download the flash files from one of the forums such as this one here for free, or what is the big difference ?

09-16-2003, 05:47 PM
ok, here are your choices:

1. go to sonyericssonserver.com and pay €60 for 5 credits (They don't sell less) - but you only need 2

2. buy a dongle for $10,- and pay €110 on shipping and handling

3. buy a dongle for €50,- or €70,

4. buy 2 credits for €30,- from me

the flash files are free in any case. you just pay to be able to flash AVR and GDFS

for the info on what a credit is, look at the bottom of the english howto

09-16-2003, 06:46 PM
Doesn't have to be 110 Euro. Anyway, I wait until I get positive reply from one of the users that the soft flash actually works and then we'll see.

09-17-2003, 11:06 AM
no lar... dont ask them to post you via DHL ... EMS is really cool, and cheaper...or you can use HONGKONG POST, takes about 1 week to get it... I'm in NZ, the shipping would cost me about 15 USD via HONGKONG POST. NO need to use DHL...

09-17-2003, 11:08 AM
have a look on www.tele-way.com, that's the manufacture website... Over there they would answer all your question.... HK post, EMS, DHL, FEDEX, UPS, TNT all up to you....

http://app1.hongkongpost.com/CGI/speedpost/eng/rate/step1.jsp

check the postage here.... about 25 euro ...

09-18-2003, 07:25 AM
Hi

I just purchased a Terminator Dongle from ucables.com and had it shipped DHL to New Zealand all for 100Euro exactly. Took about a week to get here door to door.

Just used it today and no problems at all. In fact I am delighted...

Cheers Mike

09-18-2003, 10:11 AM
100 EURO,that's a lot....

I might ask my friend to bring me one from HK... Even if you buy from HK, DHL to NZ, the grand total would be about 70NZD...still cheaper..

09-18-2003, 10:59 AM
That is correct it would be cheaper. The difference is that I have it plugged into my PC NOW and it has done the job. I am not still waiting for it to arrive from somewhere in HK.

So even though I probably paid more, I have access to a site that provides all the software needed with the dongle and who has provided quick responses to all my inquiries. All in all, money well spent and I have no regrets, even if you are able to find one for $US10.

Cheers Mike

09-18-2003, 04:43 PM
One question, some of you might not like it but nevertheless: what about a price reduction ?

Or is there any other method to flash ? I mean, the software just basically copies new files over old ones; should be doable with less effort, probably don't need the full fledge GUI ?

any thoughts ?

09-18-2003, 08:52 PM
Well a much cheaper option is to just buy the T28 data cable and then buy logs. The logs are quite cheap and I think you can get them through this site.

Cheers Mike

09-19-2003, 09:41 AM
mruane... yeah...i quite agree with you.... At least you get the fast respond and the guarantee.... I'm still waiting for my dongle to arrive. Just got the phone in HK today... So happy.....

09-19-2003, 09:42 AM
by the way,wat's logs??????

09-19-2003, 10:13 AM
Hi Flin

I have never used logs (the other term used here is Credits), but my understanding is that they are the mechanism by which the software upgrade boot process using the non patched DIV is approved and it is supposed to ensure that you have a safe upgrade. I think they are issued by sonyericssonserver.com and you have to pay for each access.

The patched DIV bypasses that process when you use the Terminator.

Cheers Mike

09-19-2003, 11:00 AM
That Sonyericssonserver stuff does not have anything to do with Sonyericsson, right ?

09-19-2003, 12:50 PM
mruane for the fast respond... I know what you mean... The problem with the sw is you got to pay every time you use the software... If you dont have the sim lock proble with your phone, I suggest ppl to get the dongle and the CRACKED DIV8.X, that's the cheapest.... Coz you can use it again and again.....

09-19-2003, 11:34 PM
Yes flin your are right. Whilst the dongle costs more up front, it gives you more flexibility. I have fixed two phones now a T610 and a T68i. If I fix my mates T68 tomorrow and someone elses the day after I would have soon paid for a dongle in the costs of credits and I would not have the growing collection of DB six packs in the fridge.

Cheers Mike

09-20-2003, 02:00 PM
That's awesome.... Unfortunately I dont drink much.... so can't ask my friend bring me the alcohol... never mind, i'll ask them take me down to the buffet.... :o :o :o :o

my dongle is one the way to NZ, 3days to NZ, I paid 55NZD include shipping cost.... if your friends are going to buy the dongle, ask them go to one-stop-factory, save you lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$..

Cheers.

09-20-2003, 02:08 PM
and I would not have the growing collection of DB six packs in the fridge.
